The project:
Trainee programme in Germany for Bulgarian and Romanian young professionals in the field of nature conservation and sustainable regional development

(offered by the Alfred Toepfer Stiftung F.V.S. and the German Environmental Foundation)

Objective

The Alfred Toepfer Foundation F.V.S. and the German Environmental Foundation support modern and sustainable nature conservation in Romania and Bulgaria with a focus on questions of protected area management and the closely connected problems of regional sustainable development.

Thus both foundations are offering a four-month trainee programme in Germany, which is organised by the Alfred Toepfer Academy for Nature Conservation in close cooperation with the University of Lüneburg, Europarc Federation and Euronature. <

The short-term trainee positions are open to ten younger (not older than 40 years) employees and decision-makers in the field of nature conservation from both Bulgaria and Romania. They will support them to stay in German professional nature conservation organisations as trainees and to successfully develop own projects and implement them in their home-organisations after returning to Romania and Bulgaria.

Language

The trainee programme will be carried out in English language. Additional knowledge of German language would be helpful for better integration into the work environment in the placements.

Trainee positions

Successful applicants will take part in a nature conservation management training programme in Germany, which is constituted as a four-months trainee programme (divided into two stays) in large-scale protected areas and nature conservation institutions in Germany, including five training courses and workshops and a two-week field trip. The grants amount to approx. 1,000 € per trainee and month and include insurance costs. In addition, there is a budget for the trainees’ travel costs. The grants do not cover the time period between the trainees’ two stays in Germany, neither the time period after their return travel after their second stay.

To support the implementation of excellent future-oriented projects in Bulgaria and Romania by the trainees themselves, special project grants of up to 3,000.- € (resp. up to 15,000.- € ) per scholar-project are available. These project grants are appointed in the framework of a project competition.
